Infirmary Records of Monroe County, Ohio 1855-1946

Compiled by Shirley A. Harmon, John Ogden                                           Edited by Karen Romick

In 1854, the county commissioners established the Monroe County Infirmary for the use of a “poor farm.” Over the years, the infirmary provided a shelter to the impoverished, elderly, infirm and mentally handicapped. Even orphans were placed here until the Children’s Home was built in 1888. This volume contains the records of the infirmary, tombstone inscriptions from the infirmary cemetery, additional burials and deaths found in other sources, photos, and newspaper abstracts pertaining to the infirmary.
